Dr. George McKay has been practicing at Lincoln Primary Care Center for almost 30 years. Since then, he has been working to improve the overall wellness of the patients he sees by providing local access to Walk-In Services and the MAT program in southern West Virginia. Dr. McKay is a familiar face of our Walk-In services at Lincoln Primary Care Center, and he helps those in our Medicated Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program. He would be happy to assist you, and all those you love, through these services.

What is a MD?  

MD, referred to as Medical Doctor, is a licensed physician that has graduated from an accredited medical school and completed a three-year residency program.  MDs must meet medical and state licensing requirements in order to practice medicine.  

What is an Internist?  

An internist, also known as an internal doctor, is a specialist that provides nonsurgical medical care for both the youth and adult populations.  

What is Walk-In Service?  

Walk-In appointments are available at SWVHS-Sand Plant during its operating hours, and a patient can ‘walk-in’ without calling ahead to be seen.  Some examples of what health concerns can be seen through a Walk-In appointment are:  

  • Shallow cuts & abrasions 
  • Muscle sprains & strains 
  • Minor burns 
  • Sore throat or ear infections 
  • Urinary tract infections 
  • Rash without fever 
  • Symptoms associated with flu, cold, Strep Throat 
  • Respiratory symptoms associated with COVID-19, seasonal allergies 
  • Insect bite or sting that requires attention *please note if you receive an insect bit or sting and are experiencing throat swelling and the inability to breathe without complication this is an emergency situation – call 911- this could signify an allergic reaction

Southern West Virginia Health System is focused and committed to helping you on your health journey no matter the challenges you may face.  Our Medicated Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program, located in Hamlin, WV is a program for individuals with opioid use disorders. We want those in our communities to be able to receive and have access to these services when needed, and to be supported along the way. 

 Are there pharmacy services nearby?  

Should Dr. McKay prescribe a medication to you during your appointment, we have an on-site pharmacy at Lincoln Primary Care Center, as well as a stand-alone pharmacy at Dennis’ Pharmacy in Hamlin, WV. We would be happy to fill your prescription in a timely and efficient manner at one of those locations.   

If you prefer to have your prescriptions sent to a different pharmacy, we are happy to do so.  Just let our staff know at the time you are asked which pharmacy location you prefer.
