1975- Lincoln Primary Care Center, Inc. (LPCC) was incorporated by local citizens as a non-profit community based rural health center.

1977 – LPCC was recognized as the nation’s first designated Rural Health Clinic (RHC).

1989- The capital campaign for the current LPCC building construction began. The construction included LPCC’s clinic and a lease for a portion of its space to the Lincoln Volunteer Emergency Services- the county’s EMS operation.

1991- The National Rural Health Association honored LPCC as the nation’s Outstanding Rural Health Practice.

1998- LPCC was established as a Federally Qualified Health Center “Look-Alike”

2002- LPCC became a Federally Funded Section 330 center under the Health Resources Services Administration in 2002.

2004- LPCC expanded its services to include a Wellness Center to provide community members multiple options for dealing with chronic disease and preemptively address populations at risk for chronic disease through prevention

2005- Lincoln Primary Care Centered opened its first pharmacy the Lincoln Primary Care R-eXcellence program in Hamlin, WV

2010- Lincoln Primary Care was awarded a Service Area Competition grant award from the Health Resources Service Administration (HRSA) for Logan and Mingo Counties. As a result, LPCC created Southern West Virginia Health System (SWVHS) to encompass this area and opened additional clinics in Man, Gilbert, Salt Rock, Logan, and Delbarton, WV and school-based health centers in Chapmanville Regional High School and Logan High School.

2010- SWVHS opened the R-eXcellence Program – Man pharmacy

2010- SWVHS received a HRSA grant to complete construction of a facility on Sand Plant Road off of Corridor G in South Charleston.

2013- Alum Creek Pharmacy joined the network of SWVHS Pharmacies at our SWVHS- Sand Plant location.

2015- Dennis’ Pharmacy in Hamlin, WV joined the network of the SWVHS Pharmacies

2016- SWVHS opened school-based health centers at Midway Elementary, Ranger Elementary, and Man Elementary/ Middle School.

2018- Madison Medical became part of SWVHS, expanding our services in Boone County.

2019- SWVHS opened our Madison Medical Pharmacy

2020- The construction of the new SWVHS- Man facility was completed with the financial assistance from the office of the Governor, the Logan County Commission, and private funding secured by LPCC.

2023- The construction of the new Guyan Valley Wellness Center clinic began.

2023- SWVHS merged with Hygeia Facilities Foundation, Inc. with the expansion of SWVHS Whitesville, SWVHS Wharton, SWVHS Oceana clinics and two school-based health centers, Sherman Jr./Sr. High, and Sherman Elementary.

2024- The construction of the new Guyan Valley Wellness Center clinic was completed and SWVHS opened the Guyan Valley Pharmacy.

2024- SWVHS opened our Oceana Medical Pharmacy & our Whitesville Medical Pharmacy

2025- SWVHS opened two school-based health centers, Van Jr. & Sr. High Health Center and Van Elementary Health Center

2025- SWVHS acquired Vigo Family Healthcare, now SWVHS-Chapmanville

2026- SWVHS opened our Delbarton Medical Pharmacy

For more than 50 years, Southern West Virginia Health System has grown alongside the communities we serve. What began in 1975 with the founding of Lincoln Primary Care Center in Hamlin, West Virginia, was rooted in a simple idea: rural communities deserve access to trusted healthcare close to home.
