“Working as a Physician’s Assistant I have learned about the lack of primary care in Southern West Virginia.  I wanted to do something about it.  I wanted to make a positive impact in the lives of Southern West Virginian’s.”

Areas of Focus Important to Jackson Austin, PA-C

• Diabetes and Diabetic Education
• Well Child Checks
• Acute Care – Walk-In Visits

Jackson Austin, PA-C, began working at our Lincoln Primary Care Center in Hamlin, West Virginia, summer of 2019. What kind of Provider is Jackson Austin? One who is experienced working in acute care situations. His medical foundation was built working in a high-stress environment that comes with providing care in an Emergency Room. “I previously worked in the ER, so I will always be passionate about acute care. Anything procedural such as joint injections and suturing.” As a provider who sees patients through our Walk-In service in Hamlin, Jackson is equipped to handle injuries, sudden episodes of illness, urgent medical conditions and more!

However, Jackson Austin wanted to bring his area of focus to family medicine for multiple reasons. “I chose to work in family medicine to provide care for a variety of conditions and patients. My daily schedule can range from well-child checks to regular office visits with the elderly. I am very passionate about diabetic care and education.”

If you ask Jackson why he brought his career to Southern West Virginia Health System, his answer is one that goes beyond making a medical diagnosis or working with an acute situation. “Working at an FQHC provides many unique resources and programs for the betterment of my patients. For example, at Lincoln Primary Care Center, we have a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, which can help to improve my patient’s chronic conditions by improving their mental health. This is a resource not available in many practices.” A team-based, multi-faceted approach to working with patients to help them achieve their healthiest life is important to us at Southern West Virginia Health System. And providers such as Jackson Austin, PA-C are integral in making that happen for the residents of the communities we serve.

What goals lie ahead for Jackson Austin? Ones that involve both work and family. “I plan to continue with daily learning and have plans to obtain my doctorate in medical science. I look forward to growing the number of patients I serve. And, my wife and I are currently working to become foster parents. So, our biggest goal in the next five years is to expand our family.”
