“I chose family medicine because I enjoy all aspects of medicine. I could never specialize because I’m interested in all of the body’s systems.”
Dr. Laura Given officially joined our Lincoln Primary Care Center and Guyan Valley Wildcat Center locations during the summer of 2020, but many of you may recognize her as a familiar face. That’s because she has been part of the SWVHS family through her 3 years of residency through Marshall Family Practice at CHH. “I chose to start my career at SWVHS because I enjoyed working here so much as part of my residency training, since I specialized in the rural track.”
Residents who choose the Rural Medicine Track through Marshall University Family Medicine have the opportunity to receive ‘hands-on’ experience to prepare them to give the highest quality of care in areas where access to immediate referral is limited and the latest diagnostic and treatment equipment may not always be available. “I chose family medicine because I enjoy all aspects of medicine. I could never specialize because I’m interested in all of the body’s systems. I enjoy seeing newborns, both children and their parents, and the elderly population. I also enjoy performing minor procedures in the office, but also managing complex medical regimens and to investigate diagnoses.”
Dr. Given is Board Certified in Family Medicine and her interests lie in care for patients of all ages. In addition to providing continuity of care and women’s health she can perform minor office procedures such as cryosurgery, biopsies, small excisions, joint injections and Nexplanon insertions.
What kind of physician is Dr. Given? One who is committed to improving the quality of life and health of all her patients. She is a physician who is dedicated to providing families in rural areas the opportunity to receive access to the care they need to live their healthiest life.

You Are a New Patient
As a new patient to our practice, we ask that you arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment in order to process your new patient paperwork. You will be asked to provide your photo identification and medical insurance information at the receptionist desk. We ask that you bring a list of all medications you take, both over-the-counter and prescribed, to provide to our nursing staff at the beginning of your appointment.
Your new patient appointment will take approximately a half-hour to establish a strong knowledge of your medical history, assessment of your current condition and services considered necessary by your provider.
Should your Provider prescribe a medication during your appointment, please know many of our clinics have a Pharmacy located within our doors. This provides you with an excellent opportunity to fill your prescription in a timely and efficient manner so that you can get back to your personal schedule with less hassle.

As an established patient with our practice, we ask that you provide your photo identification and medical insurance information to our receptionist during the check-in process. If you have had any changes to your contact information since the last time you visited us, please let us know during this time.
Your established patient appointment will take approximately 15 minutes with our Provider. This allows the opportunity to discuss any changes in health you have experienced since your last appointment, the opportunity to notify your Provider of any recent hospital or urgent care visits you have experienced and an update if any of those visits outside of our organization included a medication both over-the-counter and prescribed.
