Southern West Virginia Health System Strengthens Rural Healthcare with Acquisition of Vigo Family Healthcare, Now SWVHS – Chapmanville

Hamlin, W. Va.– March 19, 2025 – Southern West Virginia Health System (SWVHS) has officially acquired Vigo Family Healthcare, which will soon operate as SWVHS – Chapmanville. This acquisition strengthens SWVHS’s mission to deliver high-quality healthcare and expand access to rural communities, providing broader care options for Chapmanville and surrounding areas.

“By joining forces with SWVHS, Vigo Family Healthcare will be able to provide primary healthcare to a larger group of patients and offer expanded services to an underserved population. I feel strongly that together, we will be able to make a positive change in the Chapmanville area,” says Dr. Tomas Vigo, owner of Vigo Family Healthcare.

The newly renamed SWVHS – Chapmanville clinic will continue offering trusted services such as primary care appointments, walk-in services which allow patients to see a provider without an appointment, Department of Transportation physical exams, medical weight management evaluation and treatment, immunizations, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), and substance misuse and recovery counseling. Patients will also benefit from SWVHS’s expanded resources and additional services available throughout southern West Virginia, all while maintaining relationships with their familiar healthcare provider.

“My main goal is to continue providing quality healthcare for my current and future patients. I look forward to working with additional providers to offer access to specialties not currently available in our underserved area,” says Dr. Vigo.

This acquisition builds upon the legacy of care established by Vigo Family Healthcare while addressing the growing healthcare needs of southern West Virginia.

Lisa Leach, Chief Executive Officer at SWVHS, emphasizes SWVHS’s commitment to maintaining the trust and compassion Vigo Family Healthcare is known for. “That legacy will continue under the SWVHS – Chapmanville name. As we combine the strengths of both organizations, patients can rest assured they will continue to receive the same quality of care they have come to expect, along with enhanced services and increased access to specialized care. We are thrilled to welcome the Vigo Family Healthcare team and look forward to the incredible things we will accomplish together.”

Leach highlights the importance of this collaboration: “This acquisition is a significant step in our goal of improving healthcare access throughout southern West Virginia. By bringing Vigo Family Healthcare into the SWVHS network, we are able to enhance continuity of care and expand services to better meet the needs of local communities.”

Patients can begin scheduling appointments at SWVHS – Chapmanville and access the full range of healthcare services available to the community as the location officially begins operating under its new name on Friday, April 4th, 2025. SWVHS – Chapmanville will operate Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, while closing from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM for lunch.
